It’s time to party like it was 1999 (well 2001 in the UK)

Pokemon gold and silver make there long awaited and fan demanded return this year in the form of pokemon heart gold and soul silver, much like the original pokemon red and blue remakes fire red and leaf green back in 2004 on the GBA heart gold and soul silver return you to the pokemon filled region of johto to once again take on the might of the evil team rocket and to of course catch them all.
At first it may be simple to just shrug this off as yet another pokemon game, lets be fare the series has had several terrible one’s, but this is not another pokemon spin off game where you walk around taking pictures of them, play tetris with them or guiding them through a mysterious dungeon, heart gold and soul silver put you right back where you want to be as a pokemon trainer in the greatest region of them all.

Just as the original gold and silver did on the GameBoy heart gold and soul silver take what had been started in the previous DS pokemon titles diamond / pearl / platinum and expands upon it listening to what the fans wanted and utilizing the DS touch screen to its full potential buy moving all the menu functions to the touch screen below as well as allowing you to drag and drop you pokemon in and out of your party via the pc box storage system.
The night and day cycle is back and with it the ability to only catch certain pokemon at certain time’s of the day or night, all so making a come back this time around are the apricorn’s that you can turn in to poke ball and the safari zone which has seen the greatest improvement of all not only by expanding the amount of pokemon in each area but by also allowing you to swap around the area’s moving the ones you want to visit closer to the door thus saving you on steps. And once again listening to what the fans want, now what ever the lead pokemon in your party is it will hop out of his / her poke ball and follow you around, we have seen this before though originally in pokemon yellow where pikachu would follow you around and recently in diamond / pearl and platinum if you entered special areas and it really adds nothing to the game , and just as in recent pokemon titles you can play as a female trainer, there is still no option to customize your character beyond gender though some thing that the series is sadly lacking.

One of the biggest editions to the game is the poke walker peripheral that comes boxed with either a copy of heart gold or soul silver, the poke walker allows you to transfer a pokemon from your game and carry it around with you on the specially designed pedometer that adds experience to your pokemon with every step you take, and Nintendo once again making you go out side and get some exercise, you can all so encounter wild pokemon along the way that you will have to battle and you can all so send your friends gifts that upon retuning to the DS can be used in game.

Its all so worth noting that for the first time pokemon heart gold and soul silver all so give you access to the full 491 pokemon back catalogue with special areas added to the game to incorporate all of the different legendary pokemon to make up for the DSi not having a GBA game card slot at it’s base. And that through it all pokemon heart gold and soul silver are at there core part of the best hand held RGP series ever.
