Shane Kim
Microsoft have announced that Shane Kim will retire from the company at the end of this year.

The 46-year-old is currently the
corporate vice president for strategy and business development at Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, but he used to be the head of Microsoft Game Studio until last year when he took the strategy and business job. Phil Spencer, former European manager and the man who replaced Kim as the new studio boss, will now be promoted to corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios.

Xbox senior vice president, Don Mattrick, said:

"Shane's been an instrumental leader in the evolution of Microsoft Game Studios and the Xbox business -- from the early days of Flight Simulator and Golf to the launch of the original Xbox, to the successful launches for two of the biggest entertainment franchises in the industry -- Halo and Gears of War.”

"Shane's passion for this business and industry runs deep and he will be dearly missed. Having dedicated the last two decades to Microsoft, Shane is eager to make up for lost time with his family and friends."

Kim, who has been with Microsoft for 19 years, plans to spend more time with his family in Redmond and possibly spending more time on his Wii -- er… we mean 360, of course.
